Amelia's Goes Sledding (the benefit of living in Wisconsin!)

Although Amelia has technically seen snow (last Christmas in Iowa) she was really too young to remember and she didn't spend too much time playing in it, honestly she wasn't really interested in it much at all last year.  This year was a different story. Amelia has had A LOT of opportunities to play in the snow and was excited each and every time.

After the first snow Eric headed out to snow blow so Mommy and Amelia bundled up to join him and play. Amelia was much more adventurous than last year, creating her own snow angel!

After a couple snows we felt it was time to take Amelia sledding for the first time. We had to convince her up the big hill and she seemed a little skeptical but always smiled and said she had fun at the bottom of the hill.

Welcome to Wisconsin! :)

Charter Steel Kids Christmas Party

I cannot say enough good things about Eric's new company, Charter Steel. They have treated us so well and they have so many fun employee appreciation events. This year we have enjoyed a company picnic at the Milwaukee County Zoo (they rented out the ENTIRE zoo), a kids Christmas Party, a company holiday party at the Kohler American Club and much more.

Amelia truly enjoyed the Kids Christmas Party. There were cookies to decorate and eat.

Santa was there! Amelia sat on his lap…with mommy…and told him what she wanted for Christmas. Then she received a special gift.

Amelia and mommy made this reindeer hat at the craft table.

Next we hit up the prize walk and story time with Mrs. Clause.

Thank you Charter Steel for another amazing event.

Oh TWOdles: Amelia's 2nd Birthday Party

When I started planning Amelia's 2nd Birthday Party she was loving Minnie Mouse, of course by the time the actual party rolled around she was obsessed with Ariel but I think she loved the Minnie Mouse decorations, cake and presents none the less! We decided to have the party in Des Moines at Grandma and Grandpa Wagner's house since we were living so far away last year and so few relatives were able to come.  Amelia got to spend her 2nd birthday party surrounded by friends and family.

Decorating for this party was a family affair. I had so much help from Eric, my mom, Mary Ann and Abby, I could not have done it without them.

Friends and Family

What a good daddy wearing Minnie ears!

Opening her many presents…

Mary Ann had a friend design and make an AMAZING Minnie Mouse cake AND a mini cake just for Amelia. It was gorgeous and delicious!

Blowing out TWO candles!

Let's eat…with a little help from my friends!

Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate Amelia's second year! We are so blessed to have such amazing friends and family. Can't wait to see what the next year brings!

Amelia: 2 Years Old

Somehow the time got away from me in the last 6 months and I haven't posted an update since 18 Months. I honestly do not even know where to begin this update because you are a completely different child at 2 than you were at 1.5. I couldn't possibly list all the words you are saying if I tried and you have grown and developed so much! I guess I will just do my best.

(pictures by Ryan Boeding)

Around 18.5 months Amelia started referring to herself as Ama, which morphed into Ami and eventually Ami-a. She now switches between Ami and Ami-a with no rhyme or reason. She never says the L even though she does say words like Yellow correctly. Our favorite use is when one of us has something of hers, like her blanket, and she will take it and say, "No Mommy, that's Ami-a's!" with a pouty face...its pretty darn cute.

As you can see from the above Amelia has gotten a little sassy, although she is generally a pretty mild tempered child she does remind us from time to time that she is two. She has much more dramatic reactions when she doesn't get her way, although they don't typically last too long. I also find when she does something wrong she usually tells on herself. "I put my crayons in my mouth mommy." She also likes to say no, even if she is actually doing what I ask her to do. Oh toddlers.

Amelia went through a little food strike where she started refusing all of her favorite foods but thankfully it didn't last too long and I'm happy to report at two she is a pretty good eater. She still has some weird tendencies. She is not into meat, she will eat plain rotisserie Chicken but that's about it. She loves things like beans and cheese and rice but if I combined those things into a casserole she will not eat it. She eats pretty much any vegetable or fruit I put in front of her. She LOVES salad...last night she ate more salad than I did! She drinks coconut milk at meals and water in between or if she asks for it at meals. She has tried juice but doesn't drink it regularly. Her current favorite foods are probably pancakes (as in she asks for them almost every morning!), grapes, salad, bananas, carrots ...oh and candy. Ever since Halloween Amelia is obsessed with candy, she would eat it every day if we let her. We finally had to tell her it was all gone so she would stop asking! I keep saying to Eric...remember when Amelia didn't know what candy was? Those were the days! :) Amelia also loves smoothies and has an adorable way of saying it that I don't even think I could type…just take my word for it.

Her language has exploded in the last 6 months. She can basically communicate anything she needs to at this point and speaks in several word sentences. So many of her "baby" words have morphed into real words. "Wawa" has turned into water and "reary" has turned into ready. We are currently working on adding please to her requests. She does it occasionally on her own, "I have some milk please?" She verbally expresses her emotions. She both responds and says on her own "I love you mommy, I love you daddy." She tells me if something is scary or not scary or if she is hurt. If she gets hurt she tells us she got on owie and asks up to kiss it all better. She also reenacts this on her dolls. She can recite the ABC's correctly. (thank you Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Aunt Abby for purchasing that book for her) She can count to 10 correctly but occasional throws in random numbers like 19, for some reason she loves the number 19!

Amelia sings ALL the time. I attribute this to the fact that we sing along to Toddler Radio on Pandora Radio ALL THE TIME. She knows The Wheels on the Bus, Twinkle Twinkle, Row Row Row your Boat, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Ring around the Rosy and bits and pieces of other songs. She loves to put on a show and will walk to the middle of a full room and just start singing. This also happens at big events like weddings. :)

One of our favorite things Amelia says/does it tell us what we want to do. As in, if she wants us to pick her up or run her around she will says "Mommy wants to carry Ami-a" or "Daddy wants to run with Ami-a." She also says her instead of me, "Mommy wants to carry her." We are working on it.

There is not much to report when it comes to sleep. At some point in the last 6 months she fully transitioned to 1 nap a day. Usually between 12-1 that last 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Every once in awhile she will wake up extra early (thanks daylight savings...seriously why???) and ask to go night night in the morning and if we have nothing going on I will let her. She goes to bed around 8 every night. We usually head up around 7:45 and change into jammies and brush teeth then read a few books before bed and she goes down with no problems. She wakes between 6-7 usually.

Amelia has gotten very clingy and attached to mommy. She gets very upset when I leave and pretty much hates gym daycare. As much as I love her loving and needing me I'm really hoping this is a phase.

Loves to give kisses. She just walks up and makes kissing face or kisses whatever body part she is near...knee, arm..., or she says, give mommy a hug and give mommy a kiss. She typically does not do just one, hugs and kisses go together. :) She has gotten pretty consistent with saying I love you, she even went through a phase where she would shout "i love you mommy" very dramatically as I would shut her light off and leave her room at night...little manipulator! :)

Amelia knows her colors and points them out correctly. She knows most animals and what sounds they make.

She is currently obsessed with The Little Mermaid. I bought her the movie when it was recently re-released and I figured she would watch it someday...well someday is now as she will sit and watch the whole movie. She talks about it all the time and even sings the songs randomly! This makes me very happy as I LOVE Disney movies and The Little Mermaid is one of my favorites!

We enrolled Amelia is gymnastics this fall and winter and she is loving it and thriving. She has mastered the somersault, the table and spider walking up the wall. She is working on a handful of other skills and honestly just truly enjoys the time each week.

Her 4 eye teeth have come in and her 2 year molars are working there way in. I was clued into this when she started sticking everything in her mouth again...what joy.

She loves babies and is so motherly and nurturing. She will hold her baby and say "its ok baby, Ami-as here" and i melt every time. Oh, and all of her babies are now named Baby Sara, there is  Baby Sara and other Baby Sara, and other Baby Sara....you get the idea. :)
